2024 Mt. Kilimanjaro

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is a "bucket list" adventure that will also raise money to bring quality medical care to Malawi.  You also have the opportunity to visit the "Warm Heart of Africa" and serve at the Pothawira project.  It will be an experience of a lifetime! 

Travel: Shira Route (6 Day Hike)

​Please note that Mt. Kilimanjaro trip is a “ Travel at Will” International Trip.​

  • Leave United States: June 26-27

  • Arrive in Tanzania: June 28

  • Acclimation: June 28-29 (safari optional) 

  • Climb:  July 1st -6th  (summit July 5th)

  • End of Climb: July 6th

  • Leave Mt. Kilimanjaro to the United States : July 7th

                                            or

  • Leave Mt. Kilimanjaro to Malawi: July 7th

Total for Shira Route- Mt. Kilimanjaro without safari is:  $1,785 ( $700 registration will go towards the climb)

Flights approx: $2,200 (this will vary) African flights- Kili to Malawi (one way $800)

Tanzania misc expenses: $800 (this includes tips, drink and anything else that needs attention)

Total approx:​ $5,585

lodging at Pothawira or a hotel in Salima, Malawi not included. (see Malawi Trip Info) this is being updated. Malawi trip cost $500 per week/per person staying on campus. 

 

Total for Shira Route- Mt. Kilimanjaro with safari is: $2,965 (safari cost- $1,180) ($700 registration will go towards the climb)

Yellow Fever immunization is not required for Malawi unless you are coming from acountry that has Yellow Fever like Tanzania. Yellow Fever will be the hardestimmunization to get. Supplies were limited in the U.S. the last 3-4 years. Once you get it you will get a “Yellow card”. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU BRING THIS CARD WITH YOU AS TANZANIA AND MALAWI OFTEN CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE BEEN

IMMUNIZED FOR YELLOW FEVER! According to the CDC the Yellow Fever vaccination is now good for life!

We will discuss Malawi lodging options and other travels costs such as passport, immunizations, gratuities, etc.

All medical personnel need to fill out a Medical Council Application Form (Medical Council Application)

​Fundraising

Each individual will be required to raise a minimum of $5,000 in addition to the trip cost.  Families will be required to raise a minimum of $7,500. You will be provided with a fundraising portal to create a personal fundraising page to make it easier for you to ask for donations via email, text or social media.

Medical Personnel info

Here is what is needed for the registration:

​​​​​1. The medical practitioners will have to fill out the "Medical Council Application" form. The nurses/midwives fill out the nursing registration form and the transcript form. Other documents needed to be sent with the filled-out application forms are: 

2. Copies of your training/medical certification,

3. Copy of diploma certificate(s), 

4. Certificate of good standing (letter from your employee stating when you started working with them and what you do at work - similar to recommendation letter), 

5. Current evidence of nursing/medical registration, 

6. Updated resume, 

7. Other nursing/medical training certificates you have, 

8. 2 passport photo sizes

9. $260 fee for physicians (has to be 5 or more) and $85 fee for nurses "Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi"
